Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde:

Out of the many book that I have read in college, this book was one of the few I was really interested in reading. When I first started reading, I had a strong sense that Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde were the same person. This first question that came to mind while reading was, who would actually want to write a book like this one? What kind of person does it take to create such a story. I found it very interesting how the author explored the animalistic side of a human being and how that can effect a persons actions. In the last two chapters of the novel, Lanyon becomes aware of the double life that Dr. Jekyll lives. Lanyon finally witnesses the change from one man to another. In my opinion, Mr. Hyde represents the darker side of Dr. Jekyll, and this is his way of exploring his darker side. What interests me is how Dr. Jekyll goes about hiding the identity of Mr. Hyde throughout the book. He strategically thought out how to cover it up. For example, he opened Mr. Hyde his own bank account, and he created a signature that was different from that of Dr. Jekyll's. This make me wonder, why is Dr. Jekyll doing this? Does this represent Dr. Jekyll's genius side, or is this a representation of Mr. Hyde's fiend side? Or is it both? These are all question that came to mind when reading this interesting book.
