The Yellow Wallpaper

In this particular story, it would appear that our main character is slowly slipping more and more into a world made from her own imagination. Towards the beginning, she speaks of living in a house that was once a very nice place. She has been  brought here because of her problems with nervousness. When she first arrives, she does not like the room she has been placed in. She wishes to live on one of the lower floors that would lead out onto a patio.

As she stays in the room, she begins to be accustomed to it, but is not a fan of the yellow wallpaper. She requests that the paper be changed, but John just tells her that the wallpaper will just be the beginning of things that need to be changed.

Soon she begins to see things in the wallpaper; a lady moving around during the night. She decides that it is her duty to free the lady before she leaves. So one day, when John had left and was not supposed to be back for some time, she began to rip at the wallpaper to free the woman. After she had effectively removed the vast majority of the wallpaper, John returns. He demands that she open the door, but she merely tells him  where the key is. After he opens the door, she says that the wallpaper has been removed and that there is no way to put her back into it.
